State of Origin 2027: the dates and venues so far, how 2026 went, and how I'll price the tips

State of Origin 2027 has one fixed date so far: Game II at Eden Park, Auckland, on Wednesday 16 June 2027. On this page are the announced dates and venues, the three 2026 scores, and the things that move an Origin price when my club ratings can't set one. A $10 head-to-head bet at $1.90 returns $19 if your side wins. Further down, you can compare licensed bookies before you check a price yourself.

Origin is the one part of the rugby league year where my club ratings can't give you a price. What I can give you is the 2027 schedule as it stands, how the 2026 series was won, and the handful of things that move an Origin price before the teams run out on a Wednesday night.

State of Origin 2027 dates and venues

One game of the 2027 series is fixed. The Australian Rugby League Commission has confirmed Game II for Wednesday 16 June 2027 at Eden Park in Auckland. It will be the first State of Origin game played in New Zealand.

Games I and III had no date or venue as at 29 September 2026. The nrl.com draw has no 2027 Origin fixtures yet, and the ticket page lists only the Auckland game. For comparison, the full 2026 schedule came out on 12 November 2025.

The same release says the Warriors play at Eden Park on the Sunday before Game II, as the away side. General public tickets for the Origin game go on sale in November 2026. I'll add Games I and III to this table once the NRL names them.

Prices for the same Origin game can differ from one bookie to the next, so before you bet, compare six licensed bookies on PayID, minimum deposit and withdrawal times, as each one states them.

Perth, New Zealand and the venue pattern

No 2027 game has been announced for Perth. When the NRL and the Western Australian Government announced a deal in August 2023, they named Optus Stadium as an Origin venue for 2025 and 2028. Perth hosted Game II in 2025, and Queensland won it 26–24.

That 2023 release also set out the NRL's policy: one neutral venue, and one home venue for each state, in the three-match series. On that policy, Eden Park fills the neutral slot in 2027 and the other two games would be one in each state. That is my reading of the policy, not an announcement, and I'll correct it here if the schedule says otherwise.

For punters in the west, the time zone matters too. The 2026 games all kicked off at 8:05 pm AEST, which is 6:05 pm AWST in Perth.

How the 2026 series went

New South Wales won the 2026 series 2–1 and took the shield back from Queensland, who had won it in 2025. All three games were on a Wednesday at 8:05 pm AEST, and two of the three turned around after half-time.

Game III8 July 2026Suncorp Stadium, BrisbaneQLDNSW 30–12NSW 18–452,452

The home side is as the nrl.com draw lists it; the MCG was the neutral venue. In Game I, Queensland led 20–0 after 21 minutes. New South Wales levelled with a try in the 79th minute, and the conversion won it.

Game II went the other way. New South Wales led 12–8 at half-time, then Queensland outscored them 36–12 after the break. The side trailing at half-time won both of the first two games.

Before the decider, nrl.com noted that Queensland had won 10 of the last 12 series deciders. New South Wales won it 30–12 at a sold-out Suncorp Stadium, and Nathan Cleary took the Wally Lewis Medal as player of the series.

Why my club ratings don't price Origin

My NRL ratings cover the 17 clubs, built from the 212 NRL games completed in 2026. Each rating belongs to a club side: its players, its coach and the combinations they've built over a season.

An Origin team is something else. Players are picked by the state they come from, not the one they live in now, so each side draws on many clubs at once. No club rating carries across to that.

I could blend the ratings of every player's club into one number for each state. It would look precise, but three games a year is far too few to test it against results. So I don't publish an Origin price from my ratings, and the NRL tips calculator only covers club games.

What moves an Origin price

Without a rating to lean on, I read an Origin market by asking what has changed since it opened. These are the four things I check.

  • Selection. Every Origin price assumes a line-up, and the line-up isn't final until close to kick-off. Before the 2026 decider, Queensland's coach confirmed his team 90 minutes before the start. For me, team news matters more than anything else on this list.
  • Coaches. Both states change coach for 2027. Matt King takes over New South Wales after Laurie Daley stood down, and Darius Boyd takes over Queensland from Billy Slater. A new coach can pick differently, which makes me wary of any early price.
  • Home ground. In club games my ratings give a home side 2 points, and 2 more when the visitor travels from another city. Origin has one neutral game a year, and the home side hasn't had it all its own way lately: before Game III, nrl.com noted New South Wales had won the last two Origin games at Suncorp, and they won there again. I give a home side something, but I have no tested Origin number for it.
  • The state of the series. If one side wins Games I and II, the shield is decided and Game III is a dead rubber. Selectors may pick with the next year in mind, and motivation is a question no price can settle. Neither 2025 nor 2026 had one: both went to a decider.

One thing I try not to overrate is the last result. In 2026, the side that lost Game II by 20 points won the decider by 18.

Head-to-head or line: two ways to bet the same game

A head-to-head bet is a bet on the winner. The price tells you the return: $10 at $1.90 returns $19 if your side wins, including your stake. The shorter the price, the likelier the bookie rates that side. My odds explained guide turns any price into a percentage.

A line bet gives one side a start instead. Say Queensland are −4.5 at the line. A Queensland bet then wins only if they win by 5 or more. A New South Wales bet wins if NSW win, or lose by 4 or fewer. The bookie sets the start so the two line prices end up close together.

The 2026 margins show why the choice matters. Game I was decided by 2 points, Game II by 20 and Game III by 18. In Game I, a side getting a 4.5-point start would have won a line bet despite losing the game. In Games II and III, the winners cleared a start of that size by more than 13 points.

If you have a firm view on the winner, head-to-head is the simpler bet. If you think a game will be close, or that a favourite is priced too short, the line is the bet that tests that view. Adding Origin legs to a multi, or several markets from one game, raises the bookie's margin with every leg; same game multi and NRL multi tips go through that step by step.

How I'll tip Origin 2027

I won't post Origin prices until both sides are named for Game I. Before then, any price is a guess at who plays, and both states have a new coach doing the picking.

When the teams are out, I'll write my view with the time I checked the bookies' prices, the way I do for club games. The method behind it is on how I tip. If I get a game wrong, it stays on the page with the rest.

Until then, my early calls for the 2027 club season are on NRL predictions. Whatever you decide on Origin night, set your limit before kick-off; my responsible gambling page lists BetStop and Gambling Help Online.

Tips, ratings and prices for NRL and AFL

Published · Last checked

What I did for this page: pulled the 2025 and 2026 State of Origin results, half-time scores and crowds from the nrl.com draw and match centre, read the NRL and ARLC releases on the 2027 series, and checked the nrl.com draw for 2027 Origin fixtures, of which there are none yet (checked 29 September 2026). Not done yet: Games I and III of 2027 have no date or venue, no teams are named, so there is nothing to price; and I haven't found the all-time series record stated on nrl.com, so it isn't on this page.
